Reaction & Response

Couple of mins. short story to narrate the difference between reaction
and response. Good one :)

Suddenly, a cockroach flew from somewhere and sat on a lady.

I wondered if this was the cockroaches response to all the glory that
was spoken about it!

She started screaming out of fear. With panic stricken face and
trembling voice, she started jumping, with both her hands desperately
trying to get rid of the cockroach.
Her reaction was contagious, as everyone in her group got cranky to
what was happening.
The lady finally managed to push the cockroach to another lady in the
group.

Now, it was the turn of the other lady in the group to continue the
drama. The waiter rushed forward to their rescue.

In the relay of throwing, the cockroach next fell upon the waiter.
The waiter stood firm, composed himself and observed the behavior of
the cockroach on his shirt.
When he was confident enough, he grabbed and threw it out with his
fingers.

Sipping my coffee and watching the amusement, the antenna of my mind
picked up a few thoughts and started wondering!

Was the cockroach responsible for their histrionic behavior?

If so, then why was the waiter not disturbed? He handled it near to
perfection, without any chaos.
It is not the cockroach, but the inability of the ladies to handle the
disturbance caused by the cockroach that disturbed the ladies.

I realized even in my case then , it is not the shouting of my father
or my boss that disturbs me,
But it's my inability to handle the disturbances caused by their
shouting that disturbs me.

It's not the traffic jams on the road that disturbs me, but my
inability to handle the disturbance caused by the traffic jam that
disturbs me.

More than the problem, it's my reaction to the problem that hurts me.

The Take-Away : The women reacted, whereas the waiter responded. We
should not react in life, we should always respond.

Reactions are always instinctive whereas responses are always
intellectual.

Earth Hour

How much do we care about our planet "EARTH"?
Yeah!!.. Its our planet, the only planet, where the so called LIVING BEINGS can sustain.
But these so called "LIVING BEINGS", how much care about their own planet?.

The question is simple. Why do we consider Earth as just any other planet?
Don't we have any differentiation between our own home and our neighbor's?
If the answer is "YES", then our JOB isn't simple.
Its really true, that we keep our home clean and tidy, and its also obvious to take care of our home, and why not, its our home, its "OUR" responsibility to take care of "OUR HOME".
So, if we consider "EARTH" as OUR planet ( OUR HOME )then
1) Why not keep it clean!!!..
2) Why not conserve non-renewable resources!!!..
3) Why not save electricity!!!..
Why not ______________!!!!...
(If you have read this article till the above line, then obviously you know what all you can do in order to save Earth).

Here is one among the small steps which definitely you can do, in order to take care of "YOUR HOME".
Recently I got one mail regarding "EARTH HOUR".
What exactly is this EARTH HOUR?

EARTH HOUR started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia when 2.2 million individuals and more than 2,000 businesses turned their lights off for one hour to take a stand against climate change. Only a year later and Earth Hour had become a global sustainability movement with more than 50 million people across 35 countries/territories participating. Global landmarks such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge, CN Tower in Toronto, Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, and Rome’s Colosseum, all stood in darkness, as symbols of hope for a cause that grows more urgent by the hour.
Earth Hour - Chile
In March 2009, hundreds of millions of people took part in the third Earth Hour. Over 4000 cities in 88 countries/territories officially switched off to pledge their support for the planet, making Earth Hour 2009 the world’s largest global climate change initiative.
On Saturday 27 March, Earth Hour 2010 became the biggest Earth Hour ever. A record 128 countries and territories joined the global display of climate action. Iconic buildings and landmarks from Asia Pacific to Europe and Africa to the Americas switched off. People across the world from all walks of life turned off their lights and came together in celebration and contemplation of the one thing we all have in common – our planet.
Earth Hour 2011 will take place on Saturday 26 March at 8.30PM (local time). This Earth Hour we want you to go beyond the hour, so after the lights go back on think about what else you can do to make a difference. Together our actions add up.
Visit our Beyond the Hour platform to share your stories and to get inspiration from the actions our supporters have shared with us already.

So isn't this simple!!!..

Please don't expect others(aliens) to take care of your home :D..

The Secret of Being Successful…

Baby giraffes never go to school. But they learn a very important lesson rather early in life.  A lesson that all of us would do well to remember. The birth of a baby giraffe is quite an earth-shaking event.  The baby falls from its mother’s womb, some eight feet above the ground. It shrivels up and lies still, too weak to move. The mother giraffe lovingly lowers her neck to smooch the baby giraffe. And then something unbelievable happens. She lifts her long leg and kicks the baby giraffe, sending it flying up in the air and tumbling down on the ground.

As the baby lies curled up, the mother kicks the baby again and again until the baby giraffe, still trembling and tired, pushes its limbs and for the first time learns to stand on its feet. Happy to see the baby standing on its own feet, the mother giraffe comes over and gives it yet another kick. The baby giraffe falls one more time, but now quickly recovers and stands up.

Mama Giraffe is delighted. She knows that her baby has learnt an important lesson: Never mind how hard you fall, always remember to pick yourself up and get back on your feet.
Why does the mother giraffe do this? She knows that lions and leopards love giraffe meat.  So unless the baby giraffe quickly learns to stand and run with the pack – it will have no chance of survival.

Most of us though are not quite as lucky as baby giraffes. No one teaches us to stand up every time we fall. When we fail, when we are down, we just give up. No one kicks  us out of our comfort zone to remind us that to survive and succeed, we need to learn to get back on our feet.

If you study the lives of successful people though, you will see a recurring pattern.

Were they always successful in all they did? No.

Did success come to them quick and easy? No,
You will find that the common streak running through their lives is their ability to stand up every time they fall. The ability of the baby giraffe!

The road to success is never an easy one. There are several obstacles, and you are bound to fall sooner or later.

You will hit a road block, you will taste failure.  But success lies in being able to get up every time you fall.

That’s a critical life skill.  And it’s the habit of all successful people.
